Dear Visitor,

Augmented reality (AR) is a live, direct or indirect, view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data. It is related to a more general concept called mediated reality, in which a view of reality is modified (possibly even diminished rather than augmented) by a computer. As a result, the technology functions by enhancing one’s current perception of reality. With the help of advanced AR technology (e.g. adding computer vision and object recognition) the information about the surrounding real world of the user becomes interactive and digitally manipulable. We will then overlay artificial information about the environment and its objects on the real world.

Are you interested in augmented reality and it’s applications in your production or marketing system? Don’t hesitate to contact us! There is also more information about AR in our news posts.

MIXED REALITY REMOTE COLLABORATION FOR 3D MANIPULATION

Remote collaboration systems link audio and video representations of two separate spaces. State-of-the-art systems either concentrate on the interpersonal space and the presence of the remote participant, or on the shared workspace and the collaborative manipulation of data. InReach is a system that integrates both the interpersonal space and shared workspace in one user experience by placing remote collaborators “in reach” of each other in a virtual 3D environment. They see their own live 3D recreated mesh in a shared virtual space standing next to their remote collaborator, side-by-side. InReach explores how remote collaborators can “reach into” a shared digital workspace where they can manipulate 3D virtual objects and data with their bare hands.

DISPLAY BLOCKS

CUBIC DISPLAYS FOR MULTI-PERSPECTIVE VISUALIZATIONS

Display Blocks is a combination of concept and implementation of a novel display technology. Display technologies have come a long way becoming thinner and more portable, to a point that they are present in mostly all of the computational devices we use in our day to day. However, despite the varity of different uses an content a screen can have they are all flat and rectangular. Display Blocks is a response to two major limitations of current displays; the project explores the possibilities that a cubic display holds for data visualization, manipulation and exploration. To this end, the design is accompanied with a set of initial applications that leverage the form factor of the display. This could be the promise of display technologies which use their form factor as a cue to understanding their content.

LUMINAR

LuminAR reinvents the traditional incandescent bulb and desk lamp, evolving them into a new category of robotic, digital information devices. The LuminAR Bulb combines a Pico-projector, camera, and wireless computer in a compact form factor. This self-contained system enables users with just-in-time projected information and a gestural user interface, and it can be screwed into standard light fixtures everywhere. The LuminAR Lamp is an articulated robotic arm, designed to interface with the LuminAR Bulb. Both LuminAR form factors dynamically augment their environments with media and information, while seamlessly connecting with laptops, mobile phones, and other electronic devices. LuminAR transforms surfaces and objects into interactive spaces that blend digital media and information with the physical space. This project radically rethinks the design of traditional lighting objects, and explores how we can endow them with novel augmented-reality interfaces.

EYERING

A FINGER-WORN VISUAL ASSITANT

EyeRing is a wearable intuitive interface that allows a person to point at an object to see or hear more information about it. It’s a micro camera worn as a ring on the index finger with a button on the side, which can be pushed with the thumb to take a picture or a video that is then sent wirelessly to a mobile phone to be analyzed. The user receives information about the object in either auditory or visual form. Future versions of this proposed system may include more sensors to allow non-visual data capture and analysis. This finger-worn configuration of sensors opens up a myriad of possible applications for the visually impaired as well as the sighted.

SYSTEMATIC CREATIVE BUSINESS PROBLEM SOLVING ONE-DAY HANDS-ON TRAINING

December 12, 2012, 09:30-18:30Park Plaza Hotel, Utrecht, The Netherlands

Price: EUR 350,- (excl. 21% VAT)

Trainer: Valeri Souchkov

INTRODUCTION Either at a startup or a large organization, we often face problems and challenges related to different business and management issues that can not be easily solved. Sometimes we might know a solution but limitations and constraints do not allow us to use it. Or we do not see a proper problem solving strategy. In most cases it happens due to a conflict of demands which we also know as a contradiction: we want to change something or achieve a certain goal but something else prevents us from obtaining the result desired.Usually contradictions are very difficult to solve without creating compromises which can be costly or which still do not bring the expected result in full. In such situations we try to apply creative thinking to “get out of the box” to resolve the conflict in the best possible way. In the recent past, our ability to quickly develop new effective innovative ideas as a response to difficult problems was considered as a gift, and a process of problem solving was chaotic and non-manageable.These days the situation is different. A major impact on understanding innovative problem solving has been produced by the TRIZ studies which resulted in a number of practical and systematic methods and techniques supporting creativity and innovation. A key advantage of our approach to creative problem solving is that instead of trying to randomly jump to a solution we use techniques which provide a guided search among patterns of the best innovative ideas. These patterns were collected during many years of studies. The use of these patterns provides much higher success of quickly finding a needed solution than classical methods based on trials and errors. These techniques quickly gained reputation as the best practice of innovation at such companies as General Electric, Intel, Procter & Gamble, Samsung.Although mostly known for their use in technology and engineering, during last dozen of years the TRIZ techniques have been extended to business and management areas. The techniques can be used to define and solve problems to:Improve business processes.Improve quality and productivity.Improve business products and services.Improve communication.Improve business models.Find innovative ways to cut costs.Define innovative business strategies.Due to systematic background, the methods and techniques can be learned and put to practice by every business and management professional.
